After pulling himself out of the dirt, Sonic encounters a winged imp-like creature. While Sonic is saved from a fatal landing due to an unknown energy source, he still ends up taking a heavy fall. Eggman then opens an airlock which sucks Sonic and the drained Emeralds out into space and down to earth. The dark energy of the Emeralds is brought out by the ray, transforming Sonic into a monstrous version of himself and rendering the Chaos Emeralds gray and powerless. When Sonic is close enough, he activates the Chaos Energy Cannon, which traps Sonic in the center and begins drawing the Chaos energy out of Sonic and the Emeralds in a fashion that is clearly extremely painful for him.Īfter the weapon is charged, Eggman fires a laser at the earth to wake a monster known as Dark Gaia, splitting the planet. As a trap, Eggman pretends to plead for mercy. After chasing Eggman through space and destroying half of his fleet, they finally arrived at Eggman's Research Facility and knocking Eggman himself to the ground. After being pulled to Eggman in the Mech's grasp, Sonic summoned the Chaos Emeralds from within himself and became Super Sonic in order to stop him, destroying Eggman's mech, Eggman fled in his Egg Mobile and fled from his Flagship. Eggman fired his Mech's grappling hook-like arm and grabbed Sonic. After running across the ceiling while dodging missiles, Sonic ran through the Flagship's hallway. Bounding across the flagship, Eggman brought forth his Mech and unleashed a flurry of machine gun fire. After seeing the obstacles, Sonic boosted forward and began dodging the batteries fired from the cannons.

Eggman then activated the ships defense systems, activating the cannons and bringing forth a horde of Egg Fighters. Consider us cautiously optimistic, and watch out for more details on Sonic Unleashed in the coming months.Spoiler warning: Plot, ending details or any kind of information follow.Īt the beginning of the story, Sonic the Hedgehog is confronting his nemesis, Dr. The plot's pretty simple: Dr Eggman has broken the world apart, and Sonic must travel around the seven broken continents, sticking it back together with Chaos Emerald power. Combat will play a much more important role - in the werewolf sections, we're betting - while Sonic's more traditional high-speed skills will be featured in four new modes. It wouldn't be a Sonic game without a gimmick of some kind, however, and we're promised a "completely new way to play as Sonic" when darkness sets in - lending more than a little weight to the earlier claims that he would transform into a werewolf. The engine's been under development for three years, with the intention of blending a next-generation look with classic Sonic gameplay mechanics. Observe them in the official, non-leaked, absolutely watertight video. It features "classic Sonic 2D gameplay" rendered by the all-new Hedgehog engine, which apparently excels at seamless 3D to 2D camera transitions.

Sonic Unleashed is being developed by Sonic Team, and will be released late this year for Xbox 360, Wii, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 2.

Sega has confirmed the leaks and backed up its lawyers by officially announcing its next major Sonic the Hedgehog title: Sonic Unleashed.
